The Leadership Our City Needs

Even before he was a city council member, Don was very active in our community:

  • hosting a bimonthly “Coffee with A Cop” for the past 8 years, a community outreach to bring citizens together with our Sheriff’s Deputies in Cape Canaveral.
  • organizing and hosting food drives for our local citizens,
  • organizing a drive to provide urgent needs for Brevard Family Partnership Foster Children,
  • coordinating multiple public safety events with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department
  • proudly supporting Veterans, Law Enforcement and First Responders.

With over 40 years in business, Don brings his professional experience, business acumen, and conservative values to the City Council. Currently, in addition to being a Councilmember, Don also serves on the:

  • Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (Governing Board Member),
  • Metropolitan Planning Organization Advisory Council (Governing Board Alternate)
  • Florida League of Cities Transportation and Intergovernmental Affairs Legislative Committee and
  • City of Cape Canaveral Local Roads Committee.
Other areas Don has focused on as a Councilmember include:
  • working to improve safety on our roadways and neighborhoods,

  • coordinating with KSC’s Environmental Resilience Department and the City of Cape Canaveral’s Resiliency Division to share best practices and efforts to mitigate erosion along the beach and river fronts,

  • consistently opposing any alteration to our short-term rental policy and working to improve enforcement of those restrictions,

  • successfully opposing the proposed Round About for SR A1A in Cape Canaveral by championing the citizens’ position to the FDOT,

  • continually working to secure Cape Canaveral’s place on the FDOT priority project list and promote roadway improvements to benefit our pedestrian population,

  • championing storm water solutions to address flooding throughout our city,

  • leading the push for improvements towards sidewalk completion, and all manners of mobility including our FDOT priorities, such as Vision Zero and additional signalized crosswalks.

Don has been responsible for hosting community forums with prominent speakers, candidate forums for those running for City Council, and sponsoring Coffee with a Cop whereby residents can meet our local police officers and ask questions or voice concerns.

Civility and respect in government

Residents of Cape Canaveral have different concerns and issues that confront them. Each has a right to be heard and their concerns considered with respect. City officials may have opposing views on issues that we face, but nevertheless should set an example with civil...

Environment

Our community is responsible for the stewardship of our most precious asset: the ocean and the Banana River. Cape Canaveral must continue to be an example of an environmentally conscious community by promoting efforts to reduce storm water run off into the Banana...

Home Rule/Preemption

Our city should be able to determine what is best for our citizens and businesses with minimal interference from Tallahassee. Too often large special interests at the state capital promote changes that are pushed down on the local communities without any consideration...

Law and Order, Safety

The safety and security of all our residents is very important. We all want to be secure in our homes and property. One way of accomplishing this is to support our law enforcement officers and first responders as they work hard to make our communities safe to live,...

Partnerships

Actively attract businesses through partnerships with the city as a means of increasing tax revenue. Partner with our neighboring municipalities to find mutually beneficial solutions to environmental issues, transportation, and tourism. Create a community partnership...

Fiscally Conservative

We have many needs within the city and our tax dollars need to be spent wisely. There has been considerable growth and development of city facilities, but we also need to ensure that our infrastructure can meet our increasing demands. We need to make sure that all...
